Selling power to the grid
The Ontario Clean Air Alliance has been working with a number of hospitals and institutions interested in installing CHP systems to arrange power sales agreements with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA).
We have also been encouraging the OPA to move forward with plans for a simplified standard offer program for CHP systems. Under such a program, the OPA would purchase electricity at a price that reflects the efficiency, health and environmental advantages of distributed CHP generation. (See, for example, our November 2009 memo to the OPA on this matter.)
We encourage all health facilities interested in CHP to contact Energy Minister Brad Duguid (bduguid.mpp@liberal.ola.org or 416-327-6715) and encourage him to put in place a fair price CHP standard offer program ASAP.
We are also happy to work with your facility on engaging with the OPA. Please contact Jack Gibbons at 416-926-1907 x240, jack@cleanairalliance.org.
